10 Things You Should Know

  1. We have 24/7/365 technical support for Canvas available (Instructors: 833-221-7459, Students: 877-894-3392) . 
  2. The Canvas Guides provide tutorials for all Canvas features (Instructors Links to an external site., Students Links to an external site.) 
  3. Canvas integrates with Banner, so your students are automatically added to your class. They will log in through the legally required Student Authentication Process.  
  4. Canvas Announcements support instructor-initiated contact with students (a legal requirement).  
  5. Canvas Discussions and Collaborations provide a mechanism for students to interact with each other (a legal requirement).  
  6. There are many features in Canvas that support making instructional materials accessible for people with disabilities (a legal requirement).  
  7. Canvas has a FERPA-compliant grade book.  
  8. The Canvas Assignment feature: 
    1. allows students to submit assignments in various formats (text, file, media, cloud location). 
    2.  allows you to attach rubrics to assignments to save you time on grading. 
    3. includes a comment box for your insightful comments about student work 
  9. The Canvas Quiz feature includes elements for objective and essay exams supported by online proctoring software 
  10. ConferZoom and Canvas Conferences (video meeting platforms) are integrated into Canvas. 

Canvas Build-In Tutorial Tool

The Canvas course setup tutorial Links to an external site. helps you become familiar with the feature areas available in a Canvas course. In each area, the tutorial displays a brief overview and links to user guides that relate to that feature. The tutorial can be useful when creating a new course or learning about an individual feature area. 

To enable the tutorial in your Canvas, complete the following steps:

  1.  Log in to Canvas and click on the Account link in your Global Navigation menu.

  2. Select Profile.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Scroll down to Feature Options.

  5. Click the option to enable the Course Set-Up Tutorial
